Honda Service FAQs, Answered
As the Service Manager at our Greater San Diego Honda dealership, Matt gets plenty of questions on a daily basis. Check out his answers to some of the most common maintenance questions car owners ask us:

How often should I get an oil change?
Every 5000 miles or 6 months for an oil change is the average, but newer Honda models have an oil life percentage on the dash.
What do the warning lights on my dashboard mean?
Warning lights on the dash can mean many different things and you should see your dealer if any lights are on.
When should I replace my vehicle's battery?
The average life expectancy of a battery is 5 years, but this can vary due to many different factors like usage of radio when the vehicle is turned off.
How can I tell if my brakes need servicing?
Brakes can begin to make a squealing noise as they get low. Vibration at braking is a sign of warped rotors. Brake pads should be replaced when they are at 3mm of thickness or below.
What is a multipoint inspection, and why is it important?
A multipoint inspection is a complete inspection of the vehicle. It is important to the vehicle owner to have a periodic MPI done to catch damages, leaks and wear before they become safety issues and cause bigger, more expensive repair needs.

To gear up for the summer months, you should get an AC tune up and inspection to make sure everything is working well before the heat sets in.
Do I need to use OEM parts, or are off-brand fine?
Typically OEM parts are recommended but in some cases aftermarket parts are okay to use. Consult a Honda service adviser with any questions.
